"Kaanyag" means beauty and charm in my native language, Cebuano. Kaanyag was a term I encountered when I was an 11 year old queer child during my first queer and trans pageant experience as an audience. I saw these goddesses on stage and people were praising them with the word Kaanyag. I wanted to be Kaanyag as well, but my attempts were met with ridicule. The Kaanyag series was my way of reclaiming my power through honoring fellow Asian and Asian Pacific Islander drag queens who posses Kaanyag through their bravery and beauty.
King Lotus Boy is a portrait of the drag Kin King Lotus Boy. which is part of my "Kaanyag" series
